Alamshar is powered by three Pratt & Whitney
ST40M gas turbines and two Rolls Royce 601-
KF11 gas turbines in a Combination of Gas Turbine
and Gas Turbine (COGAG) arrangement, which
drive three transom mounted Kamewa S112-3
waterjets via three Renk reduction gearboxes.
Each waterjet can be driven by 2 gas turbines on
each shaft. Each ST40M gas turbine is rated for
4,086 kW. They are considered the cruise engines
and will propel the vessel at speeds of up to 35
knots. The ST40M gas turbines are also used for
maneuvering, entering and leaving harbour. The
601-KF11 gas turbines are rated at 7,119 kW each
and are considered boost engines. They are used
once Alamshar has cleared the harbour and it
is safe to travel at high speed. The total power
capacity is 26,496 kW
